# Position modes

Bybit and BingX futures support One-Way and Hedge Mode. The choice determines which bots can share a pair.

**Hyperliquid** supports One-Way only: create one bot per pair within a connection. There is no Hedge Mode switch.

| Mode | Position accounting | Bot allocation within one connection |
| -------------- | --------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **One-Way** | One position per pair: long or short | One bot per pair |
| **Hedge Mode** | The exchange accounts for long and short separately | One bot per side; a separate long bot and short bot can share a pair |
| **Spot** | Purchased coins in the balance | One bot per pair; no position mode switch |

## How sides are allocated

The terminal counts all bots created on the connection, including stopped bots. In Hedge Mode, the strategy's allowed directions determine which sides it occupies:

* Long only occupies the long side.
* Short only occupies the short side.
* Both directions occupy both sides, so you cannot create a second bot for the pair.
* The side of an already open position remains occupied even if that direction is disabled in settings.

A bot with both directions enabled occupies both sides, but this does not mean it holds long and short simultaneously. Allowed directions depend on the strategy and settings; check before creating a bot.

For example, in Hedge Mode two grids can trade BTC-USDT if one is long-only and the other short-only. Two grids with long enabled conflict even if one is stopped.

## Bot conflicts

If several bots occupy the same pair in One-Way or the same side in Hedge Mode, none of the conflicting bots starts automatically. Leave one bot per pair or side. For separate long and short bots on the same pair, use Hedge Mode with different allowed directions. Change mode only with bots stopped and positions closed. Stopping a bot alone does not free the pair or side.

## Where to check the mode

* Open the futures connection settings in **Connections**. **Position mode** shows the mode set on the exchange.
* A futures bot's viewer shows the mode of its specific coin. On Bybit, this may differ from the connection's general mode.

If the mode cannot be read, check that the connection is enabled and read the error message.

## Change mode from the terminal

1. Stop all bots on the connection, including those waiting to start.
2. Close their positions and verify the result on the exchange.
3. Open connection settings and choose **One-Way** or **Hedge Mode**.
4. Click **Save**.
5. Check the result message and the coin's mode in the bot viewer.

The change applies on the exchange itself:

* **BingX:** the entire futures account.
* **Bybit:** USDT trading and the coins used by bots on the connection. Check the outcome for each coin.

The terminal refuses the change if a bot on the connection is running, starting, waiting for autostart or holding a position. Switching to One-Way is also blocked if it would place two existing bots on the same pair.

Positions and orders outside the terminal may prevent the change. On Bybit, some coins may fail to switch; the terminal lists them in the message. If the result cannot be verified, check the mode on the exchange website before starting.

Do not change mode on the exchange website while bots are running: the exchange may reject an order and stop the bot.

## Multiple connections to the same account

The terminal checks occupancy among bots on the selected connection. Two connections to one exchange account do not create independent exchange positions. Do not use different API keys to split the same pair and side between bots.
